yesterday, we had the third rendition of the try to bring the north western german tradition kohlfahrt (literally: cabbage tour; a description in english can be found here) to switzerland. (actually i missed the two previous renditions…)
i’d guess that for everyone except the people living in north west germany, it must seem utterly strange to see a group of people going around with a hand cart, playing a strange game involving two balls rolling around, and drinking hard and soft booze all the time. whatever. we had fun.
actually, this was probably the first kohlfahrt featuring a view on the alps! (at the first rendition, one couldn’t see the alps from the place where it took place, and even though the second was at the same place than this time, the weather was too bad apparently…) here are two shots of our view on the alps:
finally a view on the beautiful sunset we were able to watch:

Almost envious… How many persons from north western german started this in switzerland?
We have curly kale often in the cafeteria, but no kohlfahrt… :-/
It’s a good tradition and I miss it.
basically two. and you know both of them :) there’s a third person from northern germany (the one at whose place we started and ended this time), though i can’t remember if he knew it before or not.
isn’t there a kohlfahrt by our fachschaft in oldenburg this year, where you could take part?
Yeah, my own fault. I think yesterday was the kohlfahrt by our fachschaft… :-/
Hi all, in particular Kornel.
You are right, it’s called kale in english – didn’t know that.
Yes, it was fun, but on the other hand, it is pretty hard to find kohlfahrt sympathizers in switzerland… We should have invited you! Actually, the person at whose place we started is from Minden which maybe does not count to north-western Germany, but at least he likes the Kohlfahrt idea :)
hi there.
actually, the fachschaft kohlfahrt was on friday. what’s funny is that they had a swiss participiant there, who probably never experienced a kohlfahrt before…
actually, i’d still consider minden to be in north western germany, as it’s way norther than munster (which i also count to that area), and it’s only slightly more east than bremen. but anyway, we also don’t have something like a kohlfahrt in munsterland ;)
Hi Jens and Felix!
Yes, you should have. ;) But on the other hand this weekend was very labour intensive, so perhaps it was better so. But when is a good time to visit you?
well, good question. maybe when jens is giving his dissertation colloquium? whenever that will be ;) at least i’ll try to be there then. otherwise, it depends if the others are still here in summer…
