here’s my project 52 shot for the fifteenth week. the topic was

vernetzt.

i grew up in two different worlds. first, i was outside mostly, playing in the woods. then, later, i started growing up with computers, and after some years with the internet, which was brand new back then. computers had fascinated me, long before we got our first one. later, when networks became fashionable, first in terms of network games and later in terms of sharing data, connecting computers, etc., we got more and more cables. my favorite cable color was blue. nowadays, it’s more and more wireless, though i still like the idea of having a cable. (not just for security.) i still have a lot of network cables flying around, including a hub and a switch which i haven’t used for years. this all isn’t visible in this week’s photos. instead, i chose a different topic, the cable tangle which can be found at my university. of course, not easily visible. the cables are well hidden, mostly. sometimes, if you know where to look, and if you have certain keys or know people with these keys, you can see not just one or two, but many of them. please click the photo to get a larger version:

technical details: 1/20s, f/4, 50mm, iso 200.

in case you wonder where all these cables go – they all “end” here, not far away from the first shot:

here’s my project 52 shot for the fourteenth week. the topic was

wetterfrosch.

this topic was harder than it sounded. i don’t have any frog available (to honor the german word “weather frog”, often used for weatherman), so i had to use something different. during the last weeks, i had some ideas, threw most of them away. eventually, i had the next two project 52 photos done, while this one was still missing. then, while attending revision this weekend, i made some nice shots, some of them i’ll upload later. one of these was a nice pic of some dandelions, without a macro though (that would have been even better), which looked rather nice in the end. so i chose that one for the fourteenth week, as the weather this weekend was really fantastic, and for me the dandelions represent good weather. please click the photo to get a larger version:

technical details: 1/200s, f/8, 50mm, iso 100, aps-c.

here’s my project 52 shot for the thirteenth week. the topic was

fundstück.

i found something very beautiful. a black cloud, eating up the sun. well, in fact, that’s not what i found, but what it looks like. it’s a beautiful sunset, taken from the top of the üetliberg, the local mountain of zürich. please click the photo to get a larger version:

technical details: 1/640s, f/25, 400mm, iso 200.

here’s my project 52 shot for the twelvth week. the topic was

patchwork.

this patchwork was made from a huge amount of living wood and leaves, seasoned with a dash of light of a sinking sun. combined from two photos taken while being on the üetliberg, and modified to remove the background and make the light more interesting. please click the photo to get a larger version:

technical details: 1/250s, f/5, 135mm, iso 200; combined with hugin and modified using gimp.

the original combined photo can be seen here:

here’s my project 52 shot for the eleventh week. the topic was

glas.

i decided to photograph something which reminds me of fall 2006, when i first visited canada. one thing to bring with you for good friends is maple syrup, for which canada is famous. in touristy places, one can get it in very nice bottles, shaped like a maple leaf. i really like these bottles, and yet, i still just own one of them. anyway, here’s a nice glassy excerpt from the bottle:

technical details: 30s, f/20, 105mm, iso 200.

another less glass related shot from the same bottle is the following. it depicts a part of the cap, with some maple syrup leftovers sticking to it, with a nice curly golden band which is especially beautiful when viewed in this size. on the right, you can see a white ribbon with red maple leaves (i.e. the canadian flag) on it which is tied to the golden band.

technical details: 30s, f/32, 105mm, iso 200.

here’s my project 52 shot for the tenth week. the topic was

fernweh.

this topic could be so easy if archive photos would be allowed. like in the last year, i visited many stunning places which i’d love to see again right now:

the photos were taken near vikajärvi, haines junction, keno and mayo, and yellowknife (from left to right, top to bottom). the message of these photos is plain and simple: i’d like to be far, far more north! somewhere near the arctic circle, or even north of it.

unfortunately, i couldn’t make it north. instead, i went south, and up by train, to recover a photography combining two aspects of northern travel: snow and railways.

technical details: 1/1000s, f/8, 32mm, iso 200.

(this photo is in fact older than the topic. originally i wanted to near to that place again, to take more photos, also for use for project 52. unfortunately, i was too busy and too sick to do this.)

while producing last week’s project 52 photo (which i did in fact today), i threw together a few collages. the first one is a collection of flames:

the second one shows the process of breaking a heart. from a full, nice, unused wonderful heart to broken pieces:

the third one is chocolate related: a chocolate heart being eaten. piece for piece.

here’s my project 52 shot for the ninth week. the topic was

kontraste.

fire and shade… a strong contrast, allowing the beholder to only see some details, shrouded in black, while being dazzled by the source of light.

here’s my project 52 shot for the eighth week. the topic was

technik, freund oder feind?

i know, this photo comes a bit late, but i had to wait for a new gadget to do this photo. the idea is already a few weeks old :-) harddisks are a piece of computer equipment which can be friend or foe: they store your data, your photos, your videos, your music, for a long time, fast to access. but sometimes, they suffer from head crashes or other fatal injuries, and your data, your photos, your whatever is gone. sometimes it can be recovered, sometimes not. essentially everyone who has been working with computers had a harddisk failure somewhen, i’m sure. i had several. some of them really kicked me in the ass, since i didn’t had a current backup. (this is also the reason why i don’t have any photos from a longer period many years ago…) nowadays, i have a pretty redundant system of backups, so this shouldn’t happen anymore. but who knows… there is no absolute error tolerance. the disk in the photo is pretty much dead, not only since it is open, but already covered by lots of dust, in just a short period of time. dust on the platter is an absolute killer…
